Jerry Crasnick, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent OF Steve Finley (Rockies) would like to play for the 2008 season. "I've still got that bug," Finley said. "I'm still in great shape and doing my workouts. The bottom line is, I want to play."

Updating a previous item, The Denver Rocky Mountain News reports the Colorado Rockies officially released OF Steve Finley. Finley was designated for assignment June 5, which gave them 10 days to try to move him to another team. The Rockies are liable for the full $1 million on Finley's contract, although if another team signs him, the Rockies would receive a prorated portion of the $380,000 minimum salary.
